Ambition is a gift and a curse.

If you discover it within yourself, then great. You have found yourself with purpose in your life. That is truly priceless. Not to mention, the upside potential is monumental.

No gold medal has ever been won without ambition.

However, the downside manifests itself through the intrinsic craving to pursue a path riddled with great hardship and disappointment.

Nonetheless, this misery will be insignificant compared to the experienced regret if the treacherous path is avoided altogether.

On the other hand, if you are born without ambition — you lucky son of a gun. The probability of reaching your peak fulfillment is statistically much higher. You will be satisfied with the most common life outcome. You won’t have a voice in your head nagging you to move forward, in spite of having accomplished more than the average person.

For you, achieving contentment will be relatively swift. With that, the opportunity to live in this state longer than without it — and that is bliss.

Similarly, there is a downside. Your objective reality will look very similar to that of most people. You won’t have extraordinary resources — a necessity to attain experiences attained by the top 1%.

Then again, all this won’t matter to you. So, to a degree, it is redundant.

My friend, the moral of the story is this: Discover who you are early in life. Only then will you know how to proceed such that your twilight years aren’t filled with regret. With time on your side, either path is likely to lead to what you desire.

I wish you all the best.
